‘Signpost’
Craig Wood employed a network of signs whose purpose was to point out the relationships between locations and concepts, drawing our attention to things that underlie the makeup of the Garden. As he says, "These are succinct devices that refer to the incredible range of functions that the Garden serve and open up for thought". At first glance, the signs appeared to be typical green and white heritage site signposts, until the visitor read the text. Class, money, art, culture, God and nature, were all nudged into our thoughts by these teasing allusions. The work in this exhibition is typical of his present mode of practice, in particular the merging of both conceptual and craft traditions and an examination of how global developments affect the individual.
