A major work of art was commissioned by the South Wales Police Authority, for an important site in the centre of the City of Swansea.
The site, which was chosen for the work, is located directly in front of the new Swansea Divisional Police H.Q. and features prominently in the overall development. Knighton based artist, Andy Hazell, was selected to create this new work of art. His idea was to construct a giant Thumbprint out of stainless steel and incorporate into the design, a brief history of some of the changes and innovations in the police force, as well as an explanation of common acronyms in law and jargon. |

The Thumbprint was constructed from sheets of stainless steel sandwiched together and the lettering cut-out using laser technology. The sculpture was well received upon its installation in August 2001 and moved one local journalist to say that; 'some people may see this as a permanent reminder that modern detective techniques such as fingerprinting and DNA, are making it harder to get away with crime'.
